The Aboriginal Family Law Services (AFLS) was incorporated in February 2010 under the Corporations (Aboriginal & Torres Strait islander) Act 2006 and is registered with the Office of the Registrar of Aboriginal Corporations.

Our full legal name is Western Australian Family Violence Prevention Legal Services, ICN 7333.

Funded by the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department under the national Family Violence Prevention Legal Service, we are the largest FVPLS provider in Australia.  The organisation incorporates the Department’s national ‘regionalisation’ model, with six offices in Broome, Carnarvon, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Kununurra, and Port Hedland.  The corporate services office based in Perth is responsible for overall coordination of the various operations and financial management of the Corporation as a whole.  Our Rule Book establishes our governance and processes for membership and regional representation.

We have a Board of Directors made up of Member and Professional Directors. The Board meets several times a year, including the Annual General Meeting.The Board of Directors is required to have one representative from one of the regional areas.  Up to three Member Directors are to permanently reside in the Perth area.
